ACT Senior Babysitting Service is a service provided by me to allow you to have sometime to yourself to do the things that you need to do without leaving an aged parent at home alone by themselves. The service provided is for non medical babysitting, perhaps for a person that has the early signs of dementia and you feel that it is unsafe to leave your love one at home alone for fear of an accident or something that could be left on while your not there to turn things off. Or you think that they could do with conversation outside the family to stimulate their minds.
This service is needed in Canberra as through my own situation I had an elderly parent live with me 
and at the start she was independent and able to interact very well with our family. As time marched on her independence declined and her independence on me grew at the start this was easy to deal with but over time I realised I was not able to leave her home for any period of time on her own. This had been difficult as I was not able to visit my own friends or do any volunteer work or worst still not able to be there for my own children and grand children.
At the time there were no services that my Mother qualified for and I felt there is a definite need for this type of service to allow full time or part time carers some downtime. I can also offer a service if your parent is living independently which is excellent for the working carer and allows the senior to get things done during the day so not have to depend on others to:-
- Provide transport shopping
- Collect prescriptions
- Genteel companionship
- Arrange and participate in hobbies and sporting events
- Provide respite for families
- Resolve insurance and Medicare
- Meal preparation and diet monitoring
- Arrange housecleaning, pet walker
- Prepare bills for signature
- Senior Babysitting
All of these were the things that I wished that I could find someone to do for me. At the time I was working in a demanding job trying to be Super Mum and failing I hope that if you are reading this you will see that there is a lifeline for you and there is someone around that is there when you can not.
